AB Crentsil: Biography And All You Need To Know About Him
Alfred Benjamin Crentsil Jr who is popularly known for his stage name as AB Crentsil was born in Prestea in the Western Region of Ghana to the late Alfred Benjamin Crentsil Sr and Esi Yaaba in 1943.
Until his father’s death in 1984, he was mostly referred to as AB junior. He has his primary and middle school education was the Takoradi Methodist Primary and Rev Clevel and Middle School respectively.
We worked as an electrical apprentice under his father who was the Works Superintendent of the technical branch of Ghana Railways at Takoradi after his middle-school examinations.
During his time in middle school, the renowned musician got his first introduction to music as he was introduced to the guitar by one Mr. Thedoh.
He took an interest in developing his guitar skills and in no time, he became very proficient in playing guitar and even started singing along to it anytime he is playing it.
At a point, he worked as an electrician and played with the Strollers Band. He has played with the El Dorados, the Sweet Talks, which latter group in the 1970s, under the joint leadership of Crentsil and Smart Nkansah, were the resident band at The Talk Of The Town Hotel in Tema, with him as the lead singer, and then finally the Ahenfo Band.
He dropped his first studio album in the year 1990 and the album was a 16-track album that had “Devil” as one of the best-known songs on it.
He was married to his lovely wife, Elizabeth, and together, they had eight children.
